Zero Waste Week

Zero Waste week takes place annually during the first full week in September, so this year’s week is coming up – taking place on September 6th – 10th 2021.

The campaign aims to help householders, businesses, schools and community groups increase recycling, reduce landfill waste and participate in the circular economy.

At Headington Fairtrade, we are passionate about reducing waste, reducing plastic use, helping combat climate change and supporting fair pay and working conditions for farmers, producers and workers the world over. And we are here to help you do the same. As well as all the fairtrade goods and food for sale in the shop – the purchase of which ensures fair trade conditions for our producers, and provides them with a Fairtrade premium for spending on community improvements – we also sell a variety of eco friendly and plastic free products in our shop to help reduce plastic use and other waste:

Reuseable food and drink containers:

We have a range of eco reusable rice husk coffee mugs and carbon neutral flasks as well as a beautiful climate positive range of reusable lunchboxes made from plant sugar. We also have stylish a climate neutral range of double walled reusable coffee cups for the (home) office made from kitchen grade stainless steel.

Plastic free beauty products:

We sell a gorgeous range of body butters, footbalms and bath products made by @honeystreethandmade – a family company in the heart of the Wiltshire countryside who have sourced the finest Fairtrade ingredients from across the world and individually handmake their products in small batches. All of their packaging is eco-friendly and recyclable. We also sell @earthconsciousuk natural deodorant, which is fairtrade and organic, and comes in a cardboard tube which is biodegradable or recyclable. We also sell bamboo toothbrushes.

Refills:

We stock a range of Ecover cleaning products and Faith in Nature shampoos, conditioners and body wash. We also do both Ecover and Faith in Nature refills in the shop; so once you’ve used up your bottle of washing up liquid or shampoo, bring the same bottle back into the shop and we will refill it for you. Check out our previous blog post here for information on our refills!

Plastic free kitchen goods:

We stock recyclable, unbleached and totally chlorine-free paper coffee filters and sandwich bags, as well as compostable washing up pads and scrapers made by LoofCo. The pads are hand-made in Egypt from loofah plant and cotton string and are 100% biodegradable. The scrapers are skilfully hand-made in Sri Lanka from coconut husk. This ingenious, traditional use for the outer husk of a coconut is a 100% biodegradable alternative to plastic washing up scourers and will last for months.
